A TAC claim is an insurance claim you make if you are injured in a transport accident.
The TAC is a 'no-fault' insurance scheme owned by the Victorian Government. This means if you are injured in a transport accident in Victoria you can make a TAC claim to help pay for the treatment and support you need, even if the accident was your fault.
If you've ever been involved in a motor vehicle accident, it can be overwhelming trying to understand what support may be available.

THING 1
You may still be able to access TAC support even if the accident was your fault.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that you cannot make a TAC claim if you caused the accident.

THING 2
TAC may help with more than just medical treatment.
Many people think TAC only covers hospital bills.
According to the TAC, support may include:
- Medical treatment
- Ambulance transport
- Services to assist recovery
- Repair or replacement of damaged glasses or dentures
- Income support if you cannot work because of your injuries
- Return to work support
- Lump sum compensation if eligible
Many people don't realise the full range of supports that may be available.

Some people may be eligible for a lump sum payment.
Many people think TAC only covers hospital bills.
The TAC states:
The TAC also states that adults assessed with 11% or more permanent impairment may be eligible for an impairment benefit.
The amount payable depends on the degree of impairment and the applicable legislation and indexed rates.
